Ketleflower
Artist: Josh Pitts
Ketleflower is a glowing sunflower made of light and sound, inspired by bioluminescence and the simple joy of slowing down together. Beneath its petals, you’ll find an immersive mix of gentle lighting, original music, and surround sound field recordings drawn from natural environments in the region.
This is a space to rest, cuddle, nap, talk quietly, or just exist for a while. Some folks come for reflection, some for comfort, and some just because it feels nice to be there, and all of that is welcome.
Ketleflower got its start at Engulf and has grown over the years through repeated installations and the way the community has chosen to use it. At Flipside, it offers a calm, welcoming place to take a breath and share a quiet moment with y’all, day or night.
Josh Pitts is a New Orleans based artist who creates immersive, multi-sensory experiences that invite curiosity, comfort, and connection. His work often combines light inspired by natural bioluminescence, ethereal and spatial soundscapes, and large scale sculptural or performative elements to create moments of delight and surprise.
Inspired by wild places, Josh seeks to share the sense of peace and wonder he experiences in nature through his work. The spontaneity, warmth, and celebratory spirit of life in New Orleans also play a strong role, shaping projects that feel playful, welcoming, and deeply human.
In 2014, Josh founded Interrobang, a collaborative group known for building whimsical parade floats, large scale puppets, interactive costumes, and immersive environments. Through Interrobang, he has helped create vibrant art and live music experiences that blur the line between audience and participant.
Experiments with bioluminescent inspired lighting for Interrobang projects led Josh to create his first standalone light sculpture in 2019, which eventually became Ketleflower. Since its original DIY incarnation, Ketleflower has continued to evolve through repeated installations and community interaction. The joy, calm, and connection people find in the piece continue to guide Josh’s practice and inform how his work grows over time.
