Firebird Heart (working title)

Artist: Skyhunter

Firebird folklore tells a tale of a legendary flaming bird that flies above camps of the people, assessing their dedication to kindness, generosity, and love. Should these villagers be worthy of spirit, the Firebird bestows the gift of fire so that they may warm themselves and share in the light. Firebird Heart is the nucleus of Firebird, a large-scale installation that is proposed for Burning Man 2025. Flipizens can be the first to engage with the art’s core, bringing light to the center of the Firebird’s energy – its heart. With physical exertion gifted via a hand crank system that generates light, Flipizens become the foundational spirit of Firebird itself, allowing for all who interact with it to become a collaborating artist and making the heart of the artwork a special gift from Texas to all BRC citizens.

Skyhunter is a creative reuse and visionary artist currently located in Dallas, TX. Her work has been exhibited at several local galleries and cultural centers since 2009. She has had the amazing opportunity to be a student of visionary artists Alex Grey and Allyson Grey and has participated in art residencies on Buddhist traditional thangka painting taught by qualified sacred art teachers. Oftentimes mystical and a little odd, her work explores the whimsical, macabre, and spiritual world of perception, identity, and impermanence. Drawing from her spiritual life, Skyhunter believes that creative expression comes from a presence within that is supported by the cosmos, and that energy is communicating through what we demonstrate via artistic means. Art occurs when what we perceive gives rise to an emotional experience of connection. She opts to be a creative reuse artist because it shows how form can be reutilized and transformed into a myriad of different identities. She is passionate about utilizing natural elements because organic elements not only bring a piece of our natural world into the work, but it decays, diminishes, or deconstructs right in front of us. She believes this readily available teacher is always showing us the life/death/life cycle of life, a lesson we all should keep in the forefront of our minds to learn how to release our attachment to even the most beautiful of things.
