Title

Roomba Rumble or Robo Reconing

Description

This will be a bit like battle bots but not quite as extreme. It will use roomba type vacuum units as the base for the battle bot. There will be various attachments that can be put on the bots before a match. Things like ice picks, knives, sharpened sticks are some ideas for the attachable weapons. (I am also considering putting together a mini boosh system too but not sure of logistics yet.) To determine a ‘win/kill’, there will be balloons or other items that will show damage to determine which bot wins.
Another type of battle would be to place a number of objects on the battlefield (balls or other items that are easy to push) and see which bot knocks the most off the edge of the field within a certain time.
Participants can ‘bet’ on the outcome in either of the battle scenarios. There will be nothing needed from the participants to place a bet other than them just picking a side. Prizes could be bragging rights or things like a shot from our bar or maybe a food treat.

Optional but encouraged: detailed drawings, CAD files/SketchUp documents, sketches, or other graphic illustrations of your creative concept.

Will it need power?

Yes

If it will need power, what is your power plan?

We will have power in our camp so it is taken care of.

Does the piece incorporate flame effects, moveable pieces, and/or is it climbable?

Maybe

If it does incorporate flame effects, moveable pieces, and/or is climbable what is your safety plan? [(Note: if flame effects are used, your project will be subject to inspection by the Burnable Art Lead, who has final say if your project will burn during the event).]

Safety plan will include keeping a fire extinguisher close if/when any sort of flame is used. At the moment flame effects are not for sure. Also participants will be kept at a safe distance. Any flames used would be momentary and minimal range of probably 2 feet.

Have you completed any other large scale art projects? (In this media? Where and when? How did the project go? Do you have pictures or recordings?)

I have done two other projects in the past. One was a giant lite brite and the other was glow wall. Both of them were for Flipside. Pics of both projects are on the IgnitionPfilter site ;).

You may upload photos/recording of past projects here

What is your timeline detailing the planning, creation, installment, and removal of your project?

To put the project together will be easy to complete within a week. The robots will need to be made over so they look interesting and then have the weapon attachment points added.
On site the installation and removal could be complete in an hour.

How much money do you need? (Up to $575) We are looking for a thorough itemized budget and the amount of grant money you are requesting. Please include a reasonably researched estimate of the cost of the materials you expect to need.

I already have one robo vac unit and just need a second one. Cost for the unit is $159. Misc supplies like the knives and other attachments along with decoration/artification would run another $70. Total project cost $229

Assuming a covid safe way: in 2022-2023 We would like the artists to give community workshops outside of Flipside. Do you think you have a workshop idea that could be provided to the community? If so, please tell us what it is.

Not at this time

Assuming a covid safe way: We will be having the 2022 Ignition Philter fundraiser in Austin after the fall town hall (usually held in late September/ early October.) Would you be willing/able to bring the piece back for that event?

Yes
